Why a Master's of Science in Port and Terminal Management?
The port and marine terminal operating industry has long sought an advanced degree in port and marine terminal management. The wide and dynamic array of skills and knowledge required to manage today’s and tomorrow’s port and marine terminal require diverse and industry relevant curriculum. As a result, industry engagement in all courses is critical, with courses regularly updated in order to continue to reflect advances in industry management requirements.

Is this program available online?
Yes, the program is fully online.
Will I be able to take face-to-face classes on campus?
As we are a fully online program, we are not teaching classes face-to-face at this time.
Do I have to have an engineering or business degree to enroll?
No, you can enroll in the program as long as you have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university.

Do I have to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)?
The GRE can be waived if you graduate with a 3.0 gpa or higher in your undergraduate degree or if you have at least one year applicable work experience. Please email your resume to portmanagement@lamar.edu to request a GRE waiver based on work experience.
How much does tuition cost?
Classes are currently costing around $1,600 per course for resident tuition $2,850 for non-resident.
There is significant support available for our students supporting Maritime Industry. For those above a 3.0 GPA, there are several scholarship opportunities that will aid in this cost. In addition to scholarships, non-resident students may also qualify for a waiver that matches resident tuition.
How many classes are offered a semester?
We are currently offering at least 2 courses in each 8 week semester.
How long does it take to graduate?
With a full-time course load, you can graduate in as little as 16 - 18 months. If your daily work load does not allow you to enroll full time, enrolling part-time also is possible. There is no pressure to finish quickly. This program allows you to work at your own pace, from home or your office.
Can I transfer graduate-level coursework credit hours to the M.S. in Port and Terminal Management degree?
Yes, you may be able to transfer up to six credit hours, from a regionally accredited university, at the discretion of the CAPM program advisor.
I have an American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Professional Port Manager (PPM) Certification. Can I get course credit for having this certification?
If you have an AAPA PPM certificate or other port training or work experience, you can be granted up to 9 credit hours (3 classes). You must show proof that you have met the course objectives in a manner satisfactory to the course instructor.
I am an international student, can I enroll in your program?
Yes! We are fully online so that students may enroll and take classes from any area of the world.
I am an international student, can I come to Lamar University and take classes on-campus?
As our classes are taught online, there is no option to physically attend Lamar University while majoring in our M.S. in Port and Terminal Management degree. If you would like to come to campus, please look at the Master of Engineering Management (M.E.M.) program or the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program - both have a concentration in Port Management and have face-to-face classes.
