Dr. Guduru obtained his Ph.D. in the area of mechanical behavior of nanocrystalline materials from NC State University. After that, he worked as an NRC fellow and Research Associate in different places and conducted research in Thin Films, Bio-Nano-Manufacturing, and Tissue Engineering. In 2008, Dr. Guduru joined the University of Michigan as a research faculty, where he worked on corrosion of boiler tubes, thermal spray coatings, chemical synthesis of nanomaterials. Later, he extended his research to thermal spray and laser assisted manufacturing of protective coatings, biosensors and energy storage systems (eg: Li/Na-ion batteries and supercapacitors). Since then he has been actively involved in procuring research funding.

In 2011, Dr. Guduru co-founded a start-up company "CSquared Innovations Inc." in Farmington Hills, MI, where he served as a Chief Scientific Officer. He led a research group on the manufacturing of energy storage materials, and laser and thermal spray based roll-to-roll manufacturing technologies. He has raised research funding for CSquared Innovations as a PI and Co-PI through SBIR and STTR proposals. Along with his industry profession, his continued passion for teaching helped him teach undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Michigan. Currently, he has more than seven years of teaching experience. He has published more than 60 articles in the international peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations/proceedings. He holds four international patents and contributed two book chapters. He has been serving on editorial and review panel boards for different journals and international research funding agencies.
